Tips For Starting Your First Collaborative Software Project - George Dill
Engineering and Computer Science students build much of their portfolio for the purpose of demonstrating mastery of individual learning objectives. As the scope of a software project grows from demonstrating personal learning to producing novel research or commercial products, teamwork becomes critical to meeting that project's objectives. The introduction of new tools, design patterns, and loss of control that comes with the transition to collaborative work can be jarring. To prepare students for this pivot we will introduce popular collaboration and automation tools, typical software architecture patterns that allow teams to work in parallel, and strategies for building consensus on a software engineering team.
