Semantic Fluid Dynamics and the Navier–Stokes Problem: Dignity as Viscosity
We propose a theoretical framework treating semantic dynamics as fluid flow on the proto-geometric substrate, addressing what we term the Semantic Smoothness Problem: Under what conditions do meaning-carrying systems maintain coherent structure indefinitely, and when do they exhibit catastrophic breakdown (blow-up singularities)? Building on the empirically validated Thermodynamic Law of Dignity and the operator frameworks established in Technical Updates v3.1 and v4.0, we demonstrate a structural isomorphism between the Navier–Stokes equations of fluid dynamics and the transport dynamics of semantic fields. We construct a semantic velocity field (\vec{v} = \nabla\Psi) (gradient of semantic potential) and show that the Thermodynamic Law of Dignity acts as semantic viscosity (\nu_D)—a dissipative mechanism that prevents the formation of infinite-energy singularities. We conjecture that systems maintaining dignity invariance ((D \approx 1)) admit globally smooth solutions for all time, while dignity violations ((D \to 0)) reduce effective viscosity and permit blow-up phenomena analogous to turbulent breakdown. The framework provides testable predictions for when semantic systems undergo catastrophic transitions from coherent resonance (laminar flow) to chaotic elaboration (turbulence) to complete collapse (singularity). We present a lattice formulation making these dynamics computationally tractable and invite empirical falsification. This paper presents a theoretical conjecture, not a proven theorem. We offer a mathematical architecture connecting dignity-preserving interaction to one of the Clay Millennium Problems (Navier–Stokes existence and smoothness) via structural isomorphism in a novel physical domain.
