PV-Planning and Simulation, Daylight Simulation and Energy-Certificate Calculation based on an Open-BIM-Building-Model
The TU Wien is leading the research project “BIM4BIPV – Future aspects of Building Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) in the cross system Building Information Modelling (BIM)”. Goal of this project is to develop an open BIM-based planning and simulation workflow suitable for project specific Photovoltaic (PV) modules for Building Integration (BIPV) as well as for standard PV-modules to design, plan and simulate BIPV-modules with individual layers of encapsulants, front- and back sheets and different cell types, cell string layouts and cell distributions. At the EUPVSEC 2025 it could be the first time presented, that it is possible to equip the architect’s BIMmodel of an example building in the authoring software with custom-designed solar modules and their simulation values, to then export the BIM-model as an open BIM IFC-format into PV-simulation software and to perform the photovoltaic system simulation directly on this model. The PV-simulation software recognizes the PV-modules within the 3D-BIM-model and can read and use their electric values as well as their orientation and tilt.
