Dealing with the Past Training for Peace Work Professionals

Dealing with the past is a crucial topic in peace and transformation processes and an essential part of overcoming violence. For many years, trainers Dr. Norman Mukasa and Dr. Friederike Repnik have been working in the field of Peace and Conflict Transformation at both theoretical and practical levels. This training explores relevant questions from various perspectives. Through our work with peace professionals and partners in diverse contexts, we have found that sharing concrete experiences strengthens individuals in coping with violence and its consequences at the individual, societal, and political levels. The primary goal of this seven-session training is to identify pertinent questions and, through dialogue, to develop approaches that address the specific challenges of each context. In our training courses, it is vital to tackle the challenges of confronting the past in a participant-oriented and participatory manner that is also concrete and context-specific. We offer an atmosphere that ensures this topic is not seen as overwhelming but as an opportunity to retain agency in contexts of violence and to actively engage in and support transformation processes.
