Temporal Information Dynamics in the Scalar Temporal Field Ontology: Part IV — Temporal Information Thermodynamics and the τ –Second Law
Description:This work develops Part IV of Temporal Information Dynamics (TID) within the Scalar Temporal Field Ontology (STFO). While Parts I–III introduced temporal depth, loop-protected invariants, information channels, and disformal cryptographic hardness, Part IV extends the framework into a complete temporal information thermodynamic theory. In this paper, we derive: • a covariant temporal information entropy functional SτS_\tauSτ,• an entropy production law S˙τ≥0\dot{S}_\tau \ge 0S˙τ≥0 sourced by τ\tauτ-gradients and temporal noise,• a geometric temporal free-energy functional Fτ=Uτ−TτSτF_\tau = U_\tau - T_\tau S_\tauFτ=Uτ−TτSτ,• a temporal temperature Tτ=σδτT_\tau = \sigma_{\delta\tau}Tτ=σδτ from scalar-field fluctuations,• and the τ–Second Law, expressing the irreversibility of information flow along temporal trajectories. The derivation shows that entropy production arises directly from the hyperbolicity of the τ-field, positivity of the kinetic term X>0X>0X>0, and disformal propagation through gμνeffg^{\mathrm{eff}}_{\mu\nu}gμνeff. Coherent temporal gradients enhance information transport and reduce entropy, while fluctuations δτ\delta \tauδτ generate spectral broadening and irreversible loss of channel capacity. We identify experimentally testable signatures in:• clock-network frequency drift,• atom interferometry (spectral broadening and irreversible phase noise),• quantum hardware decoherence patterns from the δτ\delta\tauδτ kernel,• and NMR echo asymmetry under temporal irreversibility. Together with Parts I–III, this manuscript completes the thermodynamic layer of Temporal Information Dynamics, forming a unified and falsifiable description of information, entropy, computation, and irreversibility rooted directly in the scalar temporal field τ(xμ)\tau(x^\mu)τ(xμ).
