Fabrication and characterization of polycaprolactone/chitosan oligomer fibrous membrane by electrospinning technique for wound dressings applications

Abstract Electrospun nanofibrous membrane is a promising approach to wound care, providing a versatile platform for developing advanced wound dressings that accelerate healing and improve patient outcomes. In this study, nanofibrous membranes are fabricated by blending chitosan oligomer (COS) and polycaprolactone (PCL). The highest blendable COS concentration to make defect‐free fibers is 20 wt%, corresponding to PCL content. The addition of COS reduces the contact angle of the membrane. The incorporated COS reduces the fiber's diameter while increasing the fabricated membrane's mechanical properties. Furthermore, the in vitro experiment results indicate that the PCL/COS could enhance the healing process. However, the membrane shows non‐antibacterial properties due to insufficient COS in the membrane and a slow COS release rate.
