Investigations on the enhancement of heat transfer in the wavy microchannel heat exchanger using microchambers and micro cylindrical inserts
In this decade, cooling of miniaturized equipment with conventional HXs is extremely difficult in a different application such as cooling of battery in electric vehicles, and electronic equipment, photocell, etc. The efficient method is to use a WMCHX. The present work investigates the behaviour of a WMCHX with micro-chambers and inserts numerically using the FVM at various Re (74–466). The investigation with factors such as Nu , FF, and PEC. The HTC and Nu increased with Re due to waviness and inserts. The highest Nu is achieved with the MCHX–MCDCI at 8.31 among all HXs. The inserts cause pressure drops to appear in WMCHX and WMCHX-MCDCI. The FF decreased with Re. The rate of decrease in FF in SMCHX–MC(Exp), WMCHX, WMCHX–MC, WMCHX–MCSCI, and WMCHX–MCDCI is 46.06 %, 13.39 %, 20.99 %, 5.18 %, and 2.87 %, respectively, when compared to SMCHX(Exp). The predominant mixing of fluid with the waviness of the channel, micro chambers, and micro inserts leads to improved HXs performance. The rate of increase in performance is 1.48 %, 2.96 %, 40.26 %, 52.61 %, and 62.95 % with SMCHX-MC(Exp), WMCHX, WMCHX-MC, WMCHX-MCSCI, and WMCHX-MCDCI than SMCHX, respectively. On average, MCHX-MCDCI has Nu of 8.31, FF of 2.87 %, and PEC of 62.97 %.
