Eco-Friendly Mobility System

This project presents an innovative web-based mobility platform designed to promote sustainable urban transportation by enabling users to plan optimized cycling routes while simultaneously understanding their environmental impact. The system integrates OpenStreetMap with OpenRouteService to generate cycling-friendly routes that focus on minimizing travel time, improving safety, and maximizing eco-benefits. A core feature of the platform is its real-time environmental impact assessment, which calculates CO₂ emissions saved, calories burned, and provides motivational eco-metrics to encourage greener commuting habits. The system incorporates modified Dijkstra-based routing algorithms with environmental weighting factors to deliver optimal, eco-conscious route choices tailored for dense urban conditions like Mumbai. To enhance user motivation and long-term engagement, the platform includes an integrated gamification system with eco-points, achievements, levels, consistency tracking, and social sharing. User authentication is implemented through a privacy-focused local storage mechanism with secure email verification via EmailJS. Extensive testing across major Mumbai corridors demonstrated an average of 1.21 kg CO₂ savings per journey, high route accuracy (94%), and strong user engagement (89% satisfaction). The system effectively addresses gaps in current navigation tools by combining route optimization with sustainability awareness—supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities.
