Post-Retrofit Moisture Risk in Solid-Wall Buildings: A Case-Based Study of Birmingham Homes

This article investigates the moisture risks associated with post-retrofit solid-wall homes in Birmingham. Using two case studies—one in Smethwick (internal wall insulation) and one in Edgbaston (external wall insulation)—the study explores failures in design, installation, and ventilation, supported by thermal imaging and WUFI modelling. The article follows PAS 2035 and BS 5250 guidance and offers practical recommendations for future retrofit coordinators.
