The Effects of Universal Health Coverage on Maternal Health Outcomes in Cameroon
This study examined how universal healthcare coverage in Cameroon would affect maternal health outcomes. We used the fifth demographic health survey data for women, carried out in a total of 14677 households in Cameroon. Access to maternal health services, maternal knowledge, use of contraceptives among women of reproductive age, and childbirth complications were used as proxies for MHO. In contrast, Insurance subscription was used as a proxy for UHC. The IV2SLS was used to analyse treated data on STATA 18.0. Data analysis using descriptive statistics, OLS, and 2SLS revealed that UHC significantly and positively affects MHO in Cameroon. Showing that increased involvement in UHC will improve maternal health outcomes in Cameroon. Increased education and women's employment to work outside the home significantly strengthened MHO in Cameroon. The results of this study are significant for financial health policymakers in Cameroon and other low-income countries around the world. Enhancing maternal health outcomes and reducing out-of-pocket expenses are fundamental goals for every nation's engagement in universal healthcare coverage.
