The Role of Personal Moral Norms on Green Human Resource Management and Organizational Citizenship Behavior for the Environment
While it is recognized that employees play a key role in pursuing an organization’s environmental goals, not much is known about how the employees’ personal moral norms (PMN) affect their engagement with their organization’s green initiatives, otherwise referred to as the organizational citizenship behavior for the environment (OCBE). This study aimed to analyze the mediation of PMN on the relationship between employee perception of green human resource management (GHRM) and OCBE. Data collected through a quantitative survey among 249 employees of a private higher education institution in Baguio City, Philippines were subjected to descriptive correlational analysis. Findings showed that when employees have a sense of moral responsibility to care for the environment, their engagement in environment- friendly practices in the workplace increases, and GHRM practices are properly implemented. This implies that a shared green vision and commitment between employees and administrators supports positive behavioral transformation. Moreover, it highlights the need for institutions to proactively develop their GHRM practices in order to effectively engage employees toward strong morals and behavior for the environment.
