CONCEPTUAL STUDY OF AVABAHUKA
Avabahuka is one of the Vata Nanatmaja Vyadhis described inAyurveda, predominantly affecting the Amsa Sandhi (shoulderjoint). It is characterized by pain (Shoola), stiffness (Stambha),and restricted movement (Akshepa Hani) of the shoulder, leading to significant functional disability. The disease bears astriking resemblance to Frozen Shoulder or Adhesive Capsulitisin modern medicine, which involves fibrosis and contraction ofthe glenohumeral joint capsule. The pathogenesis of Avabahukarevolves around the vitiation of Vata dosha, often associatedwith Kapha kshaya and Snayu shaithilya (ligamentous laxity). This conceptual study attempts to comprehensively explore theAyurvedic view of Avabahuka, its etiopathogenesis, symptomatology, and management principles. Additionally, itcorrelates the condition with modern pathological and clinicalperspectives, aiming to establish an integrative understandingand therapeutic approach.
