Self-Evident
Self-Evident is a one-page civic statement outlining the original meaning of democracy as practiced in ancient Athens: the performance of civic duties by informed citizens. It presents that civic participation, meaning deliberation, accountability, public service, mutual oversight, and education, is the foundation of democratic society. The document proposes that most passive welfare be replaced with a civic stipend that supports citizens in fulfilling these duties, including citizens with physical disabilities, among them many war veterans. These principles were feasible two thousand years ago and remain self-evident today.
