Four Approaches to AI Literacy for Higher Education Leaders
New Monograph Release: Four Approaches to AI Literacy for Higher Education Leaders I’m pleased to share my latest monograph, Four Approaches to AI Literacy for Higher Education Leaders, now available for academic and leadership communities seeking to deepen their engagement with artificial intelligence in institutional setting. This work explores four distinct pathways through which higher education leaders cultivate AI literacy: Strategic Planning Approach – Aligning AI integration with institutional goals through structured foresight and policy development. Ethics-Based Approach – Embedding moral reasoning and fairness into decision-making around AI adoption. Adaptive Learning Approach – Building literacy through experiential engagement and iterative reflection. Collaborative Learning Approach – Enhancing understanding through shared inquiry with peers, researchers, and technical experts. Based in Contingency Theory, Leadership Ethics, Adaptive Leadership, and Leader–Member Exchange, this monograph offers a conceptual and practical framework for leadership development, policy reflection, and responsible innovation. This work addresses a critical turning point in higher education, where leadership decision-making determines whether AI supports or weakens the values that define academic life. Designed for presidents, provosts, deans, and directors governing AI’s impact on academic integrity, equity, and institutional strategy, this work provides hypothetical illustrations, comparative analysis, and practical guidance for leadership learning. If you're working on AI policy, professional development, or strategic planning in higher education, I invite you to explore this study and consider how these approaches might inform your leadership practice. Let me know if you'd like to discuss applications, teaching integration, or leadership workshops based on this framework.
