Prediction 3 — Magnetar and Neutron-Star Braking-Index Anomalies from rho_t Curvature

This work presents a prediction derived from the Physical Time (rho_t–k) framework explaining the anomalous braking indices observed in neutron stars and magnetars. In classical magnetic-dipole braking, the rotation of a neutron star should evolve with a braking index of n = 3. Observations, however, consistently show values between 1.4 and 2.8, including strong deviations in magnetars. The Physical Time model predicts that gradients in the Time-density field rho_t modify the effective moment of inertia of the star and introduce curvature-driven corrections to the spin-down torque. These corrections naturally reduce the braking index below n = 3 and reproduce the full observed range without requiring rapid magnetic-field decay or additional torque components. The strongest effects occur in environments with high internal density gradients, such as magnetar crust–core interfaces and young neutron stars with rapid spin evolution. Current observations by NICER, CHIME/FRB, and long-term radio timing datasets provide direct tests of this prediction, and future measurements with the SKA will further constrain the model.
