AbstractThe transition from inanimate matter to self-organizing, information-driven systems remains one of the most fundamental unsolved problems in science. Existing origin-of-life theories emphasize biochemical complexity or thermodynamic gradients, yet they lack a clear physical mechanism describing how undirected energy flow becomes structured information — the defining feature of living systems. Here, we introduce the Coherent Quantum Oscillator Network (CQON) model, a new physical framework in which quantum coherence acts as a bridge between energy and information. In this model, basic entities—coherent quantum oscillators—interact through resonance coupling, gradually aligning their phases until collective patterns of order emerge. The evolution of coherence follows the dynamic equation: dcᵢ/dt = αR_local,i - γcᵢ + √(2T)ηᵢ(t) Conceptually, the CQON model can be intuitively understood through a simple analogy: imagine a crowded room where individuals (oscillators) are speaking at random. When a few begin to synchronize their rhythm or tone, collective patterns of conversation emerge—this represents the onset of coherence. As the interaction strength increases, distinct “islands” of synchronized communication form, similar to how coherent energy–information structures emerge in our simulations. This analogy provides an intuitive picture of how energy flow can transform into organized information through quantum coherence. Numerical simulations across diverse prebiotic environments revealed a well-defined 'life-threshold region.' Within this parameter space, coherence islands spontaneously emerge and self-organize into stable, information-rich structures. Under early Earth-like parameters (α = 0.35, T = 0.15), the system exhibited 246% coherence growth (0.121 → 0.419), a strong inverse energy–entropy correlation (r = −0.543), and the formation of 13 stable coherence islands. These findings suggest that life may arise as a natural phase transition within the energy–information continuum, driven by quantum coherence. The CQON framework provides a quantitative and testable foundation for understanding how physical energy flows can give rise to organized, information-based structures—bridging the gap between abstract quantum biology and the physical origins of life.
