The current aspects of the administrative and legal status of an official in Russia are considered. It is concluded that this institution has gone through a long development path. His important, and in some cases, leading role in building a legal, democratic state in modern Russia is noted. Attention is focused on the leading role of the administrative and legal status of an official in the realization of constitutional rights and freedoms in a rule-of-law democratic state.
