Interoperability in Action: How Open Infrastructures Connect to Deliver Real Value for Research and Society

Presentation delivered at the joint Copim, SCOSS and SPARC Europe webinar held on Tuesday 11 November 2025: Beyond technical interoperability? The future of open infrastructures and open access. This presentation explored different types of interoperability with concrete examples of SCOSS-endorsed infrastructures collaborating to strengthen open science. From shared identifiers and metadata standards, to partnerships that streamline publishing workflows, to regional networks linking into global systems, these collaborations show how infrastructures reinforce each other to become more efficient and effective. Researchers and society benefit directly: interoperability makes research outputs easier to discover, reduces administrative burden, increases visibility and recognition, and ensures global inclusion.
