Phytochemical and chemotaxonomic study on Saussurea medusa Maxim. (Compositae) Ⅱ
A phytochemical investigation of Saussurea medusa Maxim. led to the isolation of ten compounds, including salicifoliol ( 1 ), 1-hydroxy-6-epipinoresinol ( 2 ), (7 R ,7′ R ,7″ R ,8 S ,8′ S ,8″ S )-4′,4″-dihydroxy-3,3′,3″,5-tetramethoxy-7,9':7′,9-diepoxy-4,8″-oxy-8,8′-sesquineolignan-7″,9″-diol ( 3 ), diarctigenin ( 4 ), quercetin 3-rutinoside-7-glucoside ( 5 ), isololiolide ( 6 ), ( E )-3-(3′-hydroxybut-1′-enyl)-2,4,4-trimethylcyclohexa-2,5-dien-1-one ( 7 ), (3 S ,5 R ,8 R )-3,5-dihydroxymegastigma-6,7-dien-9-one ( 8 ), crotonine ( 9 ), and nudifloric acid ( 10 ). The structures of these compounds were elucidated based on spectroscopic analysis and comparison with previously reported data. All isolated compounds ( 1 – 10 ) are reported from S. medusa for the first time, with compounds 1 , 5 , 6 , 8 , and 9 being new to the genus Saussurea , and compounds 2 , 3 , 7 , and 10 being new to the Compositae family. The chemotaxonomic significance of these isolated compounds was discussed. • Ten compounds are yielded from the whole herbs of Saussurea medusa Maxim. • All compounds were isolated from S. medusa for the first time. • The chemotaxonomic significance of the identified compounds is discussed.
