Institutional Accountability and Good Governance: Evaluating Public Trust in Pakistan's Administrative System.
This is a review paper summarizing research on institutional accountability and public trust in Pakistan. Abstract: Effective governance and institutional responsibility are crucial for establishing and sustaining public confidence in contemporary administrative frameworks. In Pakistan, where governance systems consistently struggle with corruption, inefficiency in bureaucracy, and poor institutional oversight, rebuilding citizen trust has emerged as a key policy focus. This review article analyses the existing body of work on the connection between accountability systems and public confidence in administrative institutions in Pakistan. Utilizing governance frameworks suggested by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP, 2021) and the World Bank (2023), the paper highlights transparency, responsiveness, and rule of law as crucial factors impacting institutional credibility. Research indicates that diminished trust in government institutions is linked to inadequate participatory decision-making and poor accountability measures (Hussain, 2022; Ahmed & Shah, 2023). The assessment determines that improving institutional accountability via digital governance, citizen participation, and independent oversight can greatly boost public trust and democratic legitimacy in Pakistan’s administrative framework.
