Rapid and solvent-free synthesis of thiadiazoles using hypervalent oxidizing reagents: spectroscopic characterization and analysis

Abstract A rapid and environmentally benign method for the synthesis of thiadiazole derivatives has been developed using both cyclic and acyclic iodine-based oxidizing reagents under solvent-free conditions. The procedure offers a simple and efficient route, avoiding the use of hazardous solvents and lengthy reaction times. Various substituted precursors have been easily transformed into the corresponding thiadiazole derivatives within 1–2 min and affording high yields of the target products (79–82 %). The structures of the synthesized compounds were confirmed by spectroscopic techniques, including 1 H NMR, 13 C NMR, and by comparison with the reported literatures. The operational simplicity and eco-friendly nature of this approach highlight its potential as a valuable contribution to sustainable heterocyclic synthesis.
