Design of a visible-shortwave infrared optical system based on particle swarm optimization

To address the key technical challenges of low efficiency in constructing initial structures for wide-spectrum optical systems and lengthy design cycles, this paper proposes an intelligent optical design method based on the particle swarm optimization algorithm. First, based on chromatic aberration theory, the achromatic conditions for wide-spectrum systems and the minimum deviation angle constraint equations are rigorously derived. These form the foundation for constructing a physically meaningful multi-objective optimization function. Second, within this algorithmic framework, rapid acquisition of extensive initial structure solution sets satisfying the constraints was achieved across the wide-spectrum imaging range. Finally, three wide-spectrum optical systems with 0.4-1.1 µm bands are designed using this method. Results demonstrate that the focal length offset of each wavelength for each system is controlled in the range of 0.04 mm, and the imaging quality is good in the wide spectral range. Furthermore, the proposed method demonstrates exceptional performance in designing large relative-aperture wide-spectrum optical systems and wide-field-of-view wide-spectrum optical systems. Unlike traditional trial-and-error solution-searching approaches, our methodology enables automated intelligent optimization of complex optical systems.
