From Sugar to Cell. Metabolic Flow and the Arnold Flow Gradient (AFG). A thesis paper.
This thesis paper builds upon the original German concept paper and is the conceptual continuation of Arnold Flow Gradient (AFG): Original Concept and Measurement Principle. A conceptual framework of a novel physiological marker describing real-time energy flow between blood and cell, available on zenodo. It expands on the idea that many seemingly separate clinical phenomena - from energy crashes, cognitive exhaustion and hot flashes to visual disturbances and inflammation - can be traced back to a disturbance in energy availability, a dysregulation in the flow of energy between blood and cell. The Arnold Flow Gradient (AFG) introduces this relationship as a measurable and interpretable dynamic rather than a static value. Within the AFG framework, the movement of interstitial glucose is treated as a functional proxy for cellular glucose uptake.Through 25 theses, the paper shows how functional insulin deficiency, insulin resistance, hormonal adaptation, and neuronal regulation converge along the same energy axis. It proposes a physiologically grounded framework that unites metabolism, stress response, and self-regulation within one coherent energy system, detecting early dysregulation long before conventional markers indicate diabetes. Together with the concept paper (written in german), this thesis paper forms the theoretical foundation of the AFG model. This publication represents the conceptual foundation of a broader methodological framework (Arnold Flow Gradient, AFG).The specific measurement method, algorithmic interpretation, and related technical implementation are subject to separate intellectual property protection (© Peggy Arnold, 2025).
