Resilient open science - weathering storms with policies, infrastructures and communities
Resilience of science, open science inparticular, is becoming more important given geopolitical tensions, big commercial tech influences, especially genAI and waning trust and polalization. Resilience is the ability to withstand and overcome threats to your identity and essentially retain the same function. A multi-phase model of resilience and resilience strategies can help understand and assess vulnerabilities and threats as well as inspire and help organize resilience actions and improvements. Resilience of open science may be different from resilience of science at large. The 10 resilience strategies that are part of the framework suggested here do not work in isolation. Some are long, term, structurural, others short term or temporary. For all it holds that resilience relates to both communites and people and to systems and infrastructure. Examples of implementation of resilience strategies in other domains than science can inspire improving resilience of science. In the end it is up to specific groups of stakeholders to implement resilience actions and not wait for others to take action.
