Russian Proverbs in Arab Heritage: An Extensive Study of Equivalence and Translation

This exploratory manuscript presents a corpus-based descriptive analysis of 50 Russian proverbs and their Arabic renderings. Items are labeled for equivalence type (Full, Functional, Cultural Analog, Near-full, Paraphrase-required) with rationale and usage contexts. Findings indicate that entrenched Arabic proverbiality and functional counterparts generally outperform literal scene-keeping when cultural imagery diverges. The study is single-annotator and hypothesis-generating; confirmatory procedures (inter-rater reliability; reception study) are registered as future work.
