Comprehensive Literature Review of stocking Operations for Atlantic Salmon (Salmo salar) and Shad Species (Alosa alosa and Alosa fallax). Project OFB 2024MAPA-09, SCIMABIO Interface.
The objective of this document is to provide a comprehensive synthesis of current knowledge regarding conservation-oriented stocking programs for Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) and shads (Alosa spp.). To ensure scientific rigor and reliability of the presented information, this synthesis relies exclusively on peer-reviewed scientific literature published in academic journals and data validated through peer review processes. While based on findings from various stocking programs, this work specifically aims to inform discussions on conservation-oriented stocking programs. The analyses, interpretations, and recommendations derived from this work are therefore inherently tied to this conservation objective. It is crucial to note that certain considerations may be less relevant — or even inappropriate — in the context of fisheries-support stocking programs.
