Neuroreading and neurowriting in the metaverse under the EU Digital Regulatory Framework
Neurotechnology, capable of reading (neuroimaging) and writing (neurostimulation/-manipulation) neural data, is rapidly emerging as a key technology. As it converges with AI and XR-devices, it is expected to shape immersive metaverse experiences. Yet, the concepts and implications of neural data, neurotechnology, and the metaverse remain largely unaddressed within the EU Digital Regulatory Framework (i.e. the Data Governance Act, Digital Services Act, AI Act, and EU Data Protection Law (GDPR, LED, ePrivacy Directive)). This poster presents the primary results of the first work package on the definition and delineation of neurotechnology and neural data in the metaverse under the EU Digital Regulatory Framework.
