The Architecture of a Feeling: Playlists as Tools for Emotional Regulation.

This paper introduces a novel conceptual framework for understanding and utilizing music playlists as structured tools for emotional regulation. Drawing from principles of systems architecture and the author's lived experience with bipolar disorder, the article posits that a deliberately sequenced playlist can guide a listener through a predictable emotional arc. This process is modeled on the NaHzHaR (Notice, Hold, Heal, Release) framework, a recursive, human-centered methodology for designing reflexive systems. We explore how this structured listening can be a form of self-administered therapeutic intervention, moving beyond passive music consumption to an active process of emotional navigation. The paper concludes by suggesting that personal music libraries represent rich, untapped datasets for understanding individual emotional patterns, with significant implications for computational psychiatry and the development of personalized mental health tools.
