Strategies for improving sustainable rice seed supply chain performance in Indonesia: A case study in Bali Province
The availability of high-quality seeds remains insufficient for all rice fields in Indonesia. The province of Bali, as one of the rice producing areas, also faces the challenge of providing the number and quality of rice seeds desired by farmers. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct research to determine the status of sustainability and strategies to achieve sustainability in the rice seed supply chain, especially in Bali Province. This study involved three private seed producers in Bali Province, production partners, and farmer groups (Subak). The key informants consisted of experts, practitioners, and regulators. A total of, were 85 respondents. Multidimensional analysis (MDS-RAPS) was used in this study, which showed that the sustainability index value of the rice seed supply chain in Bali was 61.36 (moderately sustainable). The resulting priority strategy is a partnership enhancement strategy that consists of 1) implementing effective and efficient seed technology innovations, 2) market-oriented seed production, and 3) improving internal and external cooperation with larger seed producers. This partnership could be between local seed growers and private seed companies. The resulting research novelty is a map of rice seed supply chain sustainability strategies
