DETECTION AND PREVENTION OF PHISHING ATTACKS USING WEB DOCUMENT ANALYSIS
Phishing is a major security threat to banking and financial institutions, involving deceptive attempts by unauthorized individuals or organizations to obtain sensitive customer information. These attacks often occur via fraudulent emails and web pages that convincingly mimic legitimate services, tricking users into divulging personal data. Analogous to fishing, phishers “bait” victims to capture confidential information for malicious purposes, including identity theft and financial fraud. This paper provides an overview of phishing, its methods, and the risks it poses to users and institutions. It also outlines practical steps that users can take to protect their information and highlights anti-phishing technologies currently in use. Additionally, the study presents findings from a survey conducted by Netcraft on phishing activities, illustrating the prevalence and evolving nature of these cyber threats. The paper emphasizes the importance of awareness, vigilance, and technological safeguards in mitigating phishing attacks and securing financial systems
