Impact of accessibility and usability of university websites on student academic performance: A comparative analysis of the public and private universities in Bangladesh
Web accessibility, ensuring digital tools are usable by all, and usability, focusing on effectiveness, efficiency, and satisfaction, play pivotal roles in students' access to academic resources, instructor interaction, and e-learning. The study aims to provide insights into the impact of website accessibility and usability on the academic performance of students in both public and private universities in Bangladesh. A quantitative methodology was utilized, which involved conducting a survey using Google Form with a sample size of 100 students from both public and private universities. An independent sample t-test and a Mann-Whitney U test were conducted in order to evaluate academic performance and website assessments. The findings indicate notable discrepancies between public and private institutions, as students from private universities report greater levels of contentment, awareness, and academic achievement. A t-test conducted on separate samples indicates a statistically significant disparity in GPA/CGPA between the two groups. The results of the Mann-Whitney U test indicate students from private universities rated web accessibility and usability much higher. Despite limitations like self-reported data and a small sample size, the study provides valuable insights, emphasizing the need for improved website design and comprehensive digital education initiatives to bridge the existing digital divide in Bangladesh's higher education system.
