Getting too warm: exploring effects of temperature upon aquatic ecosystems – a teaching guide.
This work is one of a series intended to assist in the teaching of ocean literacy and allied aspects of environmental education applied to freshwaters, such as lakes and reservoirs. It targets investigations on the effects of temperature on the functioning of the plankton that support the growth of most organisms in aquatic ecosystems. The work requires the use of a simulation model. This model enables the students to experiment with a simple representation of the real world, to explore for themselves what the consequences are of changing temperatures. The model operates within a Microsoft Windows application, called Powersim Cockpit, which is available for free. · Download the model from https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.17521977
