R code and data to support paper: Annual temperature range drives thermal breadth of freshwater insects across multiple spatial scales V2

The files contain the R code and data used to conduct the data analysis in the paper ‘Annual temperature range drives thermal breadth of freshwater insects across multiple spatial scales’ submitted to Ecology Letters by Beatrice S. Please (in the first insistence) direct any questions or communicate about this paper, the data and code contained here or related topics to Ben Kefford ([email protected]) of the Centre for Applied Water Science, Institute for Applied Ecology, University of Canberra, ACT, Australia. If he does not reply, then please contact one or more of the other authors listed above. Please note the following four points: This submission consists of Code ("01_data_explore_2025-08-04.R") and two data files ("TB_data.csv" and "climate_data.csv") for joining thermal breadth and site climate data from Australia and the Americas, filtering the dataset, analysing covariation in climate variables, and performing the partial least squares (PLS) regression (see point 3 below). It also contains code ("SAB_Tbr_analysis.Rmd") and data ("TB_dataset_SAB_Tree.csv", which is derived from point 1 (above) for running the statistical models (see point 4 below). To run the PLS regression functions are required that are not part of an R package. To conduct the PLS regression requires the code "ropls_helpers.R" that is available from a link (https://zenodo.org/records/4557672) provided within the R code ("01_data_explore_2025-08-04.R"). This code must be loaded before running the PLS analysis. In our paper, we report statistical model results from Markov chain Monte Carlo generalized linear mixed models (MCMCglmm). In addition, code to run Phylogenetic Generalised Linear Mixed Models (PGLMM) are included in "SAB_Tbr_analysis.Rmd" which gives in very similar conclusions.
