COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF IFRS ADOPTION AND ACCOUNTING INFORMATION RELEVANCE IN NIGERIA'S BANKING SECTOR
This study examines the effect of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) adoption on the value relevance of accounting information in listed Deposit Money Banks (DMBs) in Nigeria. Employing an ex-post facto research design, data were collected from the annual reports of selected DMBs spanning 2008 to 2015. Descriptive statistics and regression analysis were used to analyze the data. Findings reveal that post-IFRS earnings per share and book value per share do not significantly influence the share price of Nigerian DMBs, whereas post-IFRS volume of shares issued has a significant effect on share prices. Furthermore, the study finds a significant difference in the value relevance of financial information before and after IFRS adoption. The study recommends that management, external auditors, and regulatory bodies collaborate to ensure full compliance with IFRS to achieve its intended objectives, emphasizing that effective enforcement is crucial for compliance.
