HYBRID METHODS FOR EFFICIENT QUERY PROCESSING IN DISTRIBUTED DATABASE SYSTEMS
Optimizing queries in distributed databases is a cost-sensitive process, with complexity increasing exponentially as the number of associated tables grows. Traditional query evaluation models, such as data shipping and query shipping, are commonly employed but have limitations, including speed constraints. This study develops a hybrid technique that combines the strengths of both existing methods to optimize query processing in distributed databases. Adopting a constructive research approach, the study utilizes object-oriented design for software development and appropriate hardware resources. Results indicate that while data shipping is faster in query retrieval compared to query shipping, the hybrid approach leverages the synergistic strengths of both techniques to achieve superior runtime performance. The findings align with previous studies, suggesting that query shipping is optimal for server machines, data shipping for client machines, and the proposed hybrid method is recommended for distributed database environments to ensure efficient and smooth operations
