Forgetting or denying transitional justice in Mozambique: an analysis of the Mueda and Wiriamu genocides

This article analyses the lack of transitional justice in relation to the genocides that took place in Mozambique as part of the national liberation struggle against Portuguese imperialism, where several genocides were recorded, especially the Mueda massacre and the Wiriamu massacre, the most emblematic and tragic. Within this framework, the article explores the issues that have prevented full accountability for the crimes against humanity perpetrated in Mozambique and, at the same time, seeks to understand the extent of the compulsory forgetting imposed on the victims' relatives who are clamouring for justice for their relatives.
