Geckos as Reservoirs of Zoonotic Pathogens: Implications for the Safety of Gecko Polysaccharide Extraction
This study investigates the potential role of geckos as reservoirs of zoonotic pathogens and evaluates the associated risks during the extraction of gecko-derived polysaccharides for biomedical applications. Microbiological and molecular analyses were conducted to identify pathogenic bacteria and fungi carried by geckos. The findings highlight the importance of biosafety measures in gecko handling and polysaccharide extraction to prevent possible cross-species transmission of infectious agents.
