THE ROLE OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY IN ENHANCING ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE AT FUW, TARABA STATE
The integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in administrative operations at Federal University Wukari is expected to transform how public officials execute their duties. Prior to ICT adoption, departmental exam officers manually prepared and collated student results, a process prone to errors and inefficiency. This study investigates exam officers’ perceptions of ICT adoption in the collation of students’ results and examines its implications for academic excellence. Employing a survey research design, the study collected primary data through questionnaires and secondary data from relevant literature. Quantitative data were analyzed statistically, while qualitative data were examined using content analysis. Findings indicate that exam officers were initially unprepared and inadequately informed about the ICT transition, which was imposed suddenly by the university management. Despite this, respondents acknowledged that ICT has significantly improved the preparation and collation of student results by reducing errors, inconsistencies, and stress. Moreover, ICT has positively influenced students’ academic achievements by enabling more reliable and efficient evaluations. The study recommends enhanced training for exam officers, provision of essential ICT equipment, and strategic planning for smoother adoption of technological tools. These measures are crucial to maximizing the benefits of ICT for academic administration and excellence
