Tunable Plasmonic Response of Silver Nanoparticles Entangled in Detonation Nanodiamond Network via Colloidal Self-Assembly

Publication "Tunable Plasmonic Response of Silver Nanoparticles Entangled in Detonation Nanodiamond Network via Colloidal Self-Assembly", https://doi.org/10.1002/admi.202500461. This study explores the self-assembly of nanocomplexes formed bywell-defined 20-nm colloidal silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) with 4-nmdetonation nanodiamonds (DNDs), focusing on plasmonic resonance.Water-diluted DNDs spontaneously aggregate into chain-like structuresentangling AgNPs, forming stable nanocomplexes that sediment withinminutes but maintain their plasmonic properties even after redispersion, indicating robust interparticle bonding and interactions. While driven byelectrostatics, the binding is stabilized by surface chemistry. AgNPs becomespatially entangled yet not aggregated within the DND network, resulting in8-nm red shift of the plasmonic peak. This nanocomplex morphology issupported by transmission electron microscopy images and electromagneticnumerical simulations. Modeling shows that a 3-nm gap between AgNP andDND particles consistently reproduces experimental data, confirming thatDNDs modulate the plasmonic electromagnetic field. Moreover, theplasmonic peaks undergo pronounced intensity changes depending on AgNPconcentration: low concentrations enhance (up to +78%), whereas highconcentrations lead to suppression (down to −49%) of AgNP plasmonicabsorption, independent of DND content. The model shows that, this arisesfrom AgNP field redistribution and interference. The AgNP-DND entanglednanocomplexes thus offer a simple route to a stable hybrid nanoparticlesystem with tunable optical properties for diverse applications, frombiosensing to catalysis, energy conversion or quantum technologies
