Feedback Monism The Evolution of Intelligence and Time
This document, "Feedback Monism: The Evolution of Intelligence and Time," proposes a metaphysical and evolutionary framework where all stable existence is understood as self-correcting, organized feedback loops, which the author terms "intellectual reactions". These systems—from cells and animals to civilizations and the universe—are described as "transient pockets of foresight" that model their surroundings in order to survive. The central thesis of Feedback Monism posits that intelligence is not a property but a process: "the art of maintaining prediction in the face of uncertainty". In this view, matter is the body, energy their voice, and time their unfolding thought. The work explores the evolutionary roots of prediction and concludes with Principles for the Age of Synthesis, advocating that the ethical duty of intelligence is to regulate error and ensure that progress is "measured by the vitality of feedback, not by control". Inspired by books of Daniel Dennett, Patricia Churchland, Thomas Metzinger and Karl Friston.
