Reconsidering the concept of the "trained listener" in music
This is a preprint version of a theoretical and empirical article exploring the concept of the "trained listener" in music, with a focus on the psychological and aesthetic perception of dissonant intervals. The article revisits the definition of musical ear training, arguing that true musical refinement involves not only tolerance but also conscious perception, analysis, and selection of musical elements based on their psychological and spiritual effects. Drawing on the author's experience as a composer and sound engineer, the article presents examples that distinguish between "perception" and "tolerance" of dissonance, and proposes a more comprehensive framework for musical training. This work is intended for future submission to peer-reviewed journals in musicology and auditory psychology.
