ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND AUDITING PRACTICES IN NIGERIA

This study examines the effects of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on auditing practices, focusing on the challenges and opportunities that accompany its adoption. The research explores the extent to which AI technologies influence auditing efficiency, accuracy, risk assessment, and decision-making processes. A mixed-methods research design was employed, combining survey questionnaires administered to professional auditors with secondary data from scholarly publications. The findings reveal that AI has significantly enhanced audit processes by improving accuracy, reducing time, and enabling predictive insights. However, issues such as implementation costs, lack of technical expertise, data security concerns, and resistance to change remain critical barriers. The study concludes that AI holds transformative potential for auditing but requires strategic adoption, adequate training, and ethical frameworks. Recommendations include regulatory support, auditor capacity building, and collaborative innovation to balance opportunities with risks.
