I utilize it as a take-home/homework assignment in my Principles of Biology II course. I provide students with a predetermined /chosen bacterial species and then allow them to choose a secondary species. The secondary species could be another from the predetermined list or from an additional source. It is important that you emphasize that they should be choose a bacterial species (aka NOT A VIRUS).  The predetermined list I use can be found below at the bottom of this description.
