Surgical management of obstructed partial anomalous pulmonary venous connection with severe pulmonary hypertension in an infant – A scimitar syndrome variant: A case report
Partial anomalous pulmonary venous connection (PAPVC) with obstruction and pulmonary hypertension requiring early intervention is exceptionally rare in infants. We report a 4-month-old infant presenting with respiratory failure due to PAPVC of right pulmonary veins, severe pulmonary hypertension, and anomalous systemic arterial supply to the right lower lobe – a Scimitar syndrome variant. Surgical correction included left pulmonary venous augmentation, implantation of the right lower pulmonary vein into the left atrium, rerouting of the right upper vein, and atrial septal defect closure. Coil embolization of the systemic feeder was performed subsequently. The infant recovered well and was discharged in stable condition.
