AYURVEDIC VIEW ON GESTATIONAL HYPERTENSION WITH HOME REMEDIES
Gestational hypertension is one of the most common complications observed during pregnancy, characterized by elevated blood pressure after the 20th week of gestation without proteinuria. Though modern medicine attributes it to endothelial dysfunction and placental abnormalities, Ayurveda interprets it as a result of Vāta and Pitta doṣa vitiation associated with Raktadushti and Garbhini Vyāpada. The condition arises from improper diet, stress, and lifestyle factors leading to imbalance in rasa and rakta dhātus and obstruction in srotas. Management in Ayurveda emphasizes nidāna parivarjana (elimination of causative factors), adoption of sātvika ahāra (wholesome diet), vihāra (healthy lifestyle), mental calmness, and use of mild pitta-vāta śāmaka herbs. Simple home remedies such as coconut water, coriander seed water, garlic milk, and regular oil massage play an effective supportive role. Practices like prāṇāyāma, meditation, and adherence to Garbhini Paricharya ensure stable blood pressure and fetal well-being. Integrating Ayurvedic principles with modern antenatal monitoring offers a holistic approach to preventing and managing gestational hypertension safely.
