RDMC of Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf: Governance, Services, and Fields of Action in Research Data Management

___ RDMC of Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf: Governance, Services, and Fields of Action in Research Data Management The Research Data Management Competence Center (RDMC) at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf was established in August 2022 following an 18-month development phase. It is based on the cooperation between the University and State Library, the Center for Information and Media Technology, and the Department of Research & Transfer. The founding was prepared by the Rectorate’s Task Force on Research Data Management (RDM), from which today’s RDM Council and RDM Steering Committee emerged. These committees ensure institutionally anchored, cross-faculty governance—with the distinctive feature that the RDM Council delegates a spokesperson to the Steering Committee, thereby structurally integrating the researchers’ perspective. The RDMC is organized as a virtual institution and structures its activities across six interlocking fields of action: informing, advising, training, implementing, networking, and developing. This includes, for example, targeted support in project planning through conceptual consulting and guidance, training formats, and technical as well as organizational solutions in the area of tools. Among other things, the electronic lab notebook eLabFTW is provided for research and teaching and is further developed collaboratively within a statewide community established together with fdm.nrw. Good-practice elements such as an internal performance indicator system for service evaluation, the early integration of data protection expertise, inter-university exchange, and close coordination with strategic committees enable the continuous development and institutional anchoring of the RDMC.
