FINITE GEOMETRY CRITICAL SPECIFIC HEAT IN THE PRESENCE OF QUENCHED DISORDER

In a system at an absolute temperature and clamped in a direction (say, along z-axis) between and , the quantity cannot be absolutely fixed due to fluctuations, although the fluctuation may be small. The cause of the variation of is the thermal fluctuation in the medium. Consequently, this is a problem, where there is disordering due to possibility of having different values of . Now the disorder can be annealed or quenched. In case of annealed disorder, the time scale of thermal fluctuation is comparable to other time scales in the problem [e.g. fluctuation of in case of (quasi) two dimensional membrane]. This disorder is not frozen in time. Whereas the time scale of thermal fluctuation is completely different from the shape fluctuation in case of quenched disorder, where the random variable is remain fixed and does not change in time [e.g. a glass is obtained by quenching (super-cooling) a liquid]. In this communication, we study how the quenched disorder affects the finite geometry static specific heat, particularly, near the critical point and present our results.
