Security and Sustainability: A Comparative Perspective on Futures, Generations, and Institutional Strategies

This article explores the evolving relationship between security and sustainability as defining imperatives of 21st-century governance and global development. It examines how these dual forces shape policies, institutions, and human behaviour across multiple domains , including education, infrastructure, governance, finance, and culture and how they may influence future generations. Drawing insights from historical crises such as World Wars I & II and the COVID-19 pandemic, the study investigates how different forms of security (economic, social, environmental, and institutional) interact with the ecological, economic, and social dimensions of sustainability to build resilient societies. Comparative analyses between developed and developing nations reveal both trade-offs and synergies in policy design and implementation. The paper advances a theoretical and practical understanding of how nations can integrate cultural identity, protection, and long-term resilience, concluding that true sustainability requires security structures capable of withstanding instability, resource scarcity, and external threats.
