Advancing the Movement of Open Research Information in the era of Platform Capitalism

This poster was presented at the Open Science Festival 2025 held in Groningen, the Netherlands. This poster won the Best Visual Design award. The poster aims to explain the Open Research Information (ORI) movement in the era of contemporary capitalism through using the metaphor of a big octopus in the deep ocean. The ORI movement advocates for open and transparent research information, pushing for reforms in how researchers are evaluated. In other words, they are trying to make waves in research assessment. Nevertheless, those waves are often not felt deep in the ocean. In the deep ocean, we find large creatures like the giant octopus, representing proprietary platforms. These platforms extend their tentacles into every stage of the research process, seeking to gather as much research information as possible and convert it into metrics they can sell.
