THE COGNITIVE BLUEPRINT: Extended Reflections on Human Evolution, Artificial Intelligence and Genomic Foresight
This working paper extends the framework introduced in Enhancing Human Intelligence via AI-Guided CRISPR-Cas9 Gene Editing (Version 4) by developing a theoretical model for conscious evolution—the deliberate, ethically governed enhancement of cognition through artificial intelligence and genomic foresight. It explores how modern civilisation has shifted selection pressures from survival to self-selection, leading to demographic contraction and cognitive stagnation. The paper proposes the Two-Phase Model of Cognitive Augmentation, emphasising empathy before intellect, and outlines the ethical architecture of autonomy, equity, and global governance. It situates AI-guided genomic foresight as a moral continuation of evolution rather than its replacement, advocating for a globally regulated, inclusive path toward cognitive enhancement. Version 2: This version refines the theoretical framework with expanded sections on automation, population decline, and cognitive inequality. It integrates the relationship between AI-driven automation and reduced fertility, emphasising the socio-economic and evolutionary implications of technological dependence. The Final Statement has been strengthened to highlight the moral urgency of guided evolution and the preservation of human intellect in the age of AI.
